FILM REPORT •• THE FOLLOWING

THE REPORT FOR THE FOLLOWING.

Over the last couple of days me and my class has been working on a project where we have to create a short film and a poster based off that film. Our class was split into different groups to plan film and produce our final products to present to the rest of the class. The only thing was, the finished project had to be based off something "strange", therefore we would use a mystery themed genre for our our short film.We came up with the idea of a film called 'The Following'. The film will have a detective and a masked man who follows him throughout the story.

At the start of the project we struggled to really get an idea of what we wanted to do for a film. We were told that the film had to be strange which would tell us how the film should be made not really what it should be about . Our first film project was based of an object we were given which helps because it means you can base it off that object and onwards. So considering I was the director i decided that as a group we would go into the prop room and just simply pick up an object, so the first thing we picked up was a cardboard box from the prop room. We then sat around a table for about an hour or so and decided that this box would be a time travelling portal. But then we also thought about how it could be possessed or it could be like there was a head in the box and the guy opens it up to see it . We had so many potential ideas. However as a group we agreed on the time travlling box as it seemed the strangest.

Our first main idea was based of a filmed called se7en which stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman . We used the idea of what’s in the box? We watched the iconic scene and managed to build an idea around the box. This film was really the core stimulus of how the following began.  Our second film which we based of was blade runner 2049. This is personally one of my favourite films and it contains some very bizarre but superb scenes. I loved how Dennis Villenevue directed the film and i know that we were only creating a three minute film but the sets he used for blade runner were just so mesmerising and eerie. So I wanted to at least used some set ideas of blade runner for our project. Our final idea for the following was World War Z. This was for the intro and the backing sound. I loved how the director Marc Forster used lots of snippets of iconic news reports to show how crazy the world had come to . I wanted to show that to viewers on our film because we were only making a 3 minute film we had to show some how and that intro of world war z was a great stimulus for our film. I wanted to make the viewers realise that the main character who was stuck in different time zones has seen so many different events which have happened so using an idea like the world war z intro was perfect because it already gave the audience an idea of that world has changed .

The target audience for this film was 15 because there was an Action scene and some scenes which could be seen as scary but no swear words.

We mainly used the green screen as a set as it meant that we could use any setting that we would want to use.

We used the camera's in the studio and also hired one out for the scene on the 8th floor.

To conclude this was our second project so the film was not brilliant. We succesfully managed to put afilm together without being even taught green screen. We used many angles to film to make the film more advanced. We used lots of audio and sound in the film as it makes it more interesting, without audio a film would not simply make sense.
